Solace Scenario

Solace is an exploration scenario. A world with regions to discover, areas to claim, and a civic system that tracks ownership and disputes.

Unlike Kurzz (which is driven by a live jazz session) or Downbeat (which is an entrance experience), Solace is about moving through a landscape, uncovering its geography, and interacting with the institutions that govern it.

What you do

  • Explore — discover regions and areas as you move through the world
  • Claim — mark areas you have visited or established a presence in
  • Interact — engage with civic systems that track ownership and manage disputes between parties

The scenario runs on a simulation clock. The world is moving whether or not you are interacting with it.

Toy Town

The initial Solace content is set in toy-town, a region graph with named areas (Mayne, Kennyland, Kennyport, Rundel, and others). Each area has its own identity, characteristics, and connection to the broader world.

Getting started

  1. Launch Waldo and connect to a Solace runner
  2. Use the Party panel to join or create a party
  3. Open the map panel to see the region and area graph
  4. Click an area to move there and trigger discovery events

If you are new to Waldo, start with the User Guide.

Key concepts

Concept What it is
Region A geographic containment area grouping related locations
Area A specific location with affordances, constraints, and features
Discovery An event triggered when you first encounter a region or area
Civic system Tracks ownership, claims, and disputes over areas

For content authors

Solace content lives in YAML files under scenarios/solace/: area specs define locations, region specs group them, creature specs define NPCs, and quest specs define objectives.

See the Kurzz or Downbeat tutorials for authoring patterns that apply to Solace as well.
